What does he do?
He is the captain of American Education. Not to say he has final authority on all issues, but he has significant rank among politicians and congress. He signs off on budgets and works with committees that push his agenda.

Background and Believes
Duncan strives to be a progressive figure in education. He is a Harvard graduate and has made his career in Chicago. In Chicago he served as he CEO of Chicago Public Schools for seven years, the longest term of any public School CEO in a major city. Graduation rates rose in his tenure and elementary test scores saw record highs. He advocates for a professional perception of the education industry. He is working to see a higher grade of teachers and administrators. Duncan's biggest challenge in his new job, is to revamp the controversial "No Child Left Behind Act". While he may be a fitting candidate for his position he is under serious scrutiny from those who are opposed to Obama. He has fallen victim to blame on the entire administration for the economic turmoil America is experiencing. The schools are experiencing serious revenue shortages and as a result are making cuts all across the Board. Although in the new Job speech given 9/8/11 by president Obama, there is a proposed $60 billion to save teacher jobs and update outdated school facilities.
Duncan has a difficult job. He is in charge of making American Education the best it can be, but with so many different opinions on the way education should head it is impossible to please everyone.
