Is It Worth It?

This is a article is a part of the Teachers Lounge page under the "Motivational" heading where we try to share different stories that will make you want to keep teaching. That is what  a lounge is about, a place to rest and gear up for more teaching.

It can be discouraging for teachers when we think about the impact we make on the world. There are certainly times when we want to stop and quit.

The days when you break up a fight and get hit in the jaw, or the days when you give an open notes test and your class average is still failing. Maybe it is when you get home at 7:30 and your family is hungry and you don't have anything preparred for supper or work the next day.

Teaching is stressful, which is why we have to realize we are making a difference.

If your not sure if it is worth it then take a look at this video and regain some stamina and realize the overarching purpose.

The key is that you have to be sensible to be successful in education, the boy understood that he was not going to save all of the starfish, but he was still making a huge impact on the starfish that he did come across.

Just to really drive that point home, imagine that this same boy stepped over some starfish and while helping another.

Is it worth it to save one and not the other?

Although it is not fair for the starfish that is left behind, we have to do what we can for all of those we can and then not worry about the rest!

So is it worth it?

The answer is an overwhelming YES.
