This post is found on the "Teacher's Lounge" page under the How Is It Going? section. They range from conversations that take place to funny stories that happen in the classroom.
I was over at a friends house the other day to play some tennis, but before we left a older gentleman came up and we had a short conversation with him.
The older man was a "good ol' boy" who had lived in the area most of his life, and retired and usually stays at his vacation home in Florida most of the year.
He was riding up and down the road in a golf cart and saw us and stopped to speak.
A very friendly man, who was looking for some light conversation about the weather or updates on our family (he knew most of them), or just general conversation about what has been going on with us.
I did not know him, and so I just listened to the conversation. (Word to The Wise: You should know who in your circles blogs because they are always looking for something to post about)
Here is how the conversation went:
Friend: Hey, how have you been doing?
Older Gentleman: Oh, pretty well, I haven't been doing much. Just trying to adjust to the cold weather.
Friend: It ain't (isn't) cold in Florida is it?
Older Gentleman: Oh Yeah, Florida Ain't (isn't) what it used to be! It is cold down there now!
Friend: Really?
Older Gentleman: Yeah, or I am just old one hahahaha. How (have) you been?
Friend: I can't complain.
Older Gentleman: No one would listen, anyway! Hahaha
Friend: Yeah, I know it. (Chuckle)
Older Gentleman: Well, how's your maw doing?
Friend: She's good. Still driving that bus!
Older Gentleman: Oh Yeah, how long has she been driving now?
Friend: Nearly 25 years or so.
Older Gentleman: So are you still in school?
Friend: Yeah, I go on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Older Gentleman: Well I used to go every single day and I had to walk their!
Friend: I am at school all day long on Tuesday and Thursday though! They are busy days for me!
Older Gentleman: Hahaha, yeah I bet you are pretty busy two days a week... hahahaha.
Older Gentleman: Alright, boys I've gotta (got to) get back to the house. It's good to see you and be sure tell your maw I said Hello!
Friend: Alright, take care of yourself. See you later!
I thought to myself that he genuinely did not understand that you could have school just two days a week.
It goes back to the traditional viewpoint of education that everything was fine for me and their is no reason to mess things up by changing them.
It was a lite-hearted conversation, but it still was interesting to me.
School Ain't (Isn't) What It Used To Be- It is okay to have changes, No It is good to have changes!
Grandpa's school house and grandpas school schedule doesn't cut it anymore. There needs to be differences. Factories do not operate the same way today they did 50 years and 100 years ago, why should schools?
