Dr. Suess is Not For Kids.

Infographics are neat visual ways to communicate a lot of information and data in a concise manner. TeacherAde finds the best ones on the web that deal with education and shares a new one once a month. You can find all of the infographics on the Resources page and under Infographics.

Today I just want to do away with a common misconception that Dr. Suess is for kids. That is ludicrous.

Dr. Suess is a calculated writer who uses every word of a book to deliver messages.

It takes a highly developed mind to be able to comprehend most of the messages that he communicates.

Take a look at this passage from Fox in Socks:

"When beetles fight these battles in a bottle with their paddles and the bottle's on a poodle and the poodle's eating noodles...
they call this a
muddle puddle tweetle poodle beetle noodle bottle paddle battle."

Read that out loud 4 or 5x's.

Why do we read our kids these stories? Possibly to build up our students self efficacy in their reading ability.

They see us stumble through Dr. Seuss and realize that it is not so bad to mess up. I read as good as my teacher. (I can see it being a bit of encouragement to students)

Perhaps we are trying to convey the messages in these stories to our students. Here is 30 lessons you learned from Dr. Suess without even knowing it.
